Hello lovelies!
This posting is about going virtual with your wedding information and even invitations!
Almost everyone now has an email address (unless it's your tia Cuca from el rancho) but regardless, her kids probably know how to use the internet and have email addresses.
Using the internet to keep family and friends in the loop, is a great tool to help you stay organized and in a way it can help you simplify this crazy process.
Some sites have you paying for their services, but I'm trying to save you ( and me) some moola so here are two ways to still create a website for your special day that will help you keep loved ones in the loop for FREE. Some will even allow you to put passwords so that the metiches who are not invited to your party cannot see the specific information. :)
mywedding.com
This is a great website that allows you to upload pictures, songs, guest lists and rsvps. I plan to attach our wedding link to our RSVP cards so that people can just go directly to our website to RSVP and skip mailing it in. I also use this website to keep my bridal party in the "know". I love posting pictures of my family and friends so that people can get an understanding of who we are.
I really enjoy this site over the other one because it is easy to remember and not too long to put in an rsvp card. :) You can also customize the site using various colors, designs and fonts!
You can see my wedding site at www.mywedding.com/jazminandarmando
theknot.com
The knot has great resources, but they have so much on their website that it could be a bit daunting. They also offer you a free wedding website where your guests can rsvp and you can use their various tools to organize the wedding. However, the link to your wedding page is a bit long and complicated, but it has great resources. :)
weddingchannel.com
This is another website that is almost exactly like theknot.com
Check these sites out and see which one is going to work better for you. :) These are all free and you don't need to know html code to create a wedding site.

Economize your centerpiece!
For those of us hit hard with the economy, real flowers are starting to seem more like a luxury. I know I can't afford real flowers, but I am so picky, that I know I don't want to just use ANY fake flower. So what's the alternative?
Latex Flowers:
You can find these at Hobby Lobby, Michaels or other craft stores. They are relatively cheap and they are usually ALWAY on sale for %50 off! You can use a basic base and then build around a candle to help take up some room. The latex flowers have a very real texture to and they look absolutely real! I am using calla lillies and roses in my flowers and the calla lillies look so real that my sister put the one I brought home in water!
Candle-Only :
Some couples are opting out for just setting a beautiful candle lit centerpience on every table. You can add your own ribbons, heights, trinkets, charms, etc to make each candle unique. This is also a good way to make the reception smell pretty. (Be sure to check with your venue first to make sure that they allow fire/candles in their reception halls).
Frames:
Other couples are going with a more personal approach and are adding pictures frames of the couples travels, their history together, or even pictures of both families so that friends and families can get to know one another.
In deciding a centerpiece, don't fret over the small details of it, because frankly, nobody remembers the centerpieces! People will remember the time they had and the food they ate and what a great party it was! Plus, the reason we can never remember the centerpieces at weddings is because all of our friends and families take them before the end of the night!! :) So relax, just because you can't afford real flowers doesn't mean you can't have centerpieces!

Amazing Cake!
So, I am almost 4 months away and I am busy busy planning!! I've had the wonderful opportunity to meet ( & book) some amazing vendors for our wedding! Not only do they have great work, but you can truly feel the passion and dedication that they give to your wedding.

When I was planning my wedding, I knew that I wanted a Latino/Mexicano style wedding cake, that said elegance and tradition. I thought about calla lillies (for Diego River), Bugambilias (Frida), Talavera, etc. So I searched high and low for a cake design, and just by chance I found one in Latina Magazine. I knew immediately that I wanted a talavera design on my wedding cake.
When I would meet with vendors I would show them the design and some said they could do it, but it would require tons of fondant, and others said it would be difficult. But finally, I met Shamane! The moment I mentioned "Talavera" she immediately knew what it was, and mentioned that she owned several antique talavera pots (circa 1940)! I knew this was love at first bite... I mean sight. :)
Her cake shop is located in Boulder, Colorado and in it you will find delicious pastries, and pictures and replicas of wedding cakes. She knew all about being Latina and wanting to showcase your history, traditions, culture, and pride! She knew about which colors look best with talavera, the flowers, the patterns, everything!
Her cakes were delicious and it was so difficult for us to make up our mind! She even mentioned that she had a dulce de leche caramel flavor that tasted similar to Tres Leches, as well as chocolate cinammon cake which tastes just like Chocolate Abuelita! And even though we hadn't picked that flavor for our cake testing, she whipped up a sample to give to us and it was amazing!
I was incredibly impressed with her time and commitment to us as a client. We spent almost 2 hours there! I truly appreciate that kind of attention because it means they really care about what you envision for your wedding cake.

Talavera Inspired Wedding Invitation

Using actual talavera design tiles, I created an invitation with the talavera flower designs. I plan on creating Talavera style invitations and will experiment and post them up soon. This is one template, let me know what you think, I love feedback so I can improve my designs. Please let me know if you are interested in having a custom wedding invitation design made for you as well. :)

No longer are we doing our "styrofoam rancho weddings!" Sorry abuelita, I love you but no rancho for me.
